BRITISH Transport police are appealing for witnesses to a case of homophobic abuse in Glasgow.

The incident took place on Sunday, 1st May on the train travelling from Glasgow to Stirling.

The two women aged 29 and 30, were travelling to Alloa when they were subjected to abuse from another female passenger.

The women were left shaken by the attack and contacted British Transport Police to report what happened.

Constable Nicky Ritchie, the officer in charge of the investigation appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Hate crime in any form is totally unacceptable and there is absolutely no excuse for the sort of behaviour displayed by the woman.”

Police are also looking at CCTV footage to help identify the woman, believed to be in her forties with short blonde hair.

Sexual orientation hate crime is the second most common type of hate crime in Scotland.
